Beat the Heat: How to Stay Active Safely Outside This Summer

Summer has arrived and we are here for itšŸŒžI hope everyone has been able to get outside and enjoy all the warm weather, water activities and summer sports! Most weekends you'll catch me with my family out on our boat, we love this weather and being out on the water! I think the biggest summer fan I know is our son Nolan, he loves to help his dad drive the boat, play in the water and sand all afternoon and makes friends with every dog on the beachšŸ’™šŸ¶

With all this outdoor fun, I try to keep my family hydrated, especially for our son as kids often don't drink enough liquid as it is! As we know, when the temperature rises, so does the risk of heat-related issues—especially if you’re someone who loves getting outdoors for a workout, a long run, or even just a walk in the sun. But don’t let the summer heat sideline your fitness routine. With the right precautions, staying active in the heat can be safe, energizing, and even enjoyable.

Here’s how to move smart and stay hydrated during the dog days of summer—plus why electrolytes are your summer secret weapon (and my personal fav!).

1. Time It Right

One of the easiest ways to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke is by exercising during the coolest parts of the day. Aim for early morning or later in the evening when the sun is lower and temperatures are more manageable.

2. Dress for the Weather

Choose lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing in light colors that reflect sunlight rather than absorbing it. Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and broad-spectrum SPF to protect your skin and eyes.

3. Hydration Isn’t Optional—It’s Essential!

You’ve heard it before, but it’s worth repeating: drink water consistently before, during, and afterĀ your workout. The summer heat increases sweat loss, which means you’re losing both water and vital electrolytes at a much faster rate than usual.

That brings us to the next point…

4. Don’t Just Drink Water—Replenish Electrolytes with LMNT

When you sweat, you don’t just lose water—you lose sodium, potassium, and magnesium, all critical electrolytes that help your muscles fire properly and prevent cramps, fatigue, and even headaches.

That’s where LMNTĀ comes in. It’s a zero-sugar electrolyte drink mix that delivers exactly what your body needs to perform in hot conditions—without the added junk you’ll find in most sports drinks. Each packet is loaded with:

  • 1000 mg of sodium

  • 200 mg of potassium

  • 60 mg of magnesium

Just mix it with water and sip during or after your outdoor workout to help your body bounce back faster and keep your hydration levels balanced.

šŸ’”Ā Pro tip:Ā LMNT is also great for long hikes, beach days, and even travel when you’re more likely to sweat and dehydrate.

5. Listen to Your Body

If you feel lightheaded, dizzy, nauseous, or overly fatigued, stop what you’re doing. These are early warning signs of heat exhaustion. Find shade, hydrate, and cool down as soon as possible.

6. Start Slow and Adjust

If you’re not used to training in the heat, ease into it. Your body needs time to acclimate. Start with lighter activities and shorter durations, then gradually build up as your body adapts.

Final Thoughts

Summer is a great time to soak in sunshine and stay active—but it’s also a time to be mindful of how your body responds to heat. With smart planning, proper hydration, and an electrolyte boost from LMNT, you can keep crushing your goals safely all summer long.

Stay salty, stay hydrated, and stay active. ā˜€ļøšŸ’§šŸ’Ŗ
